Honda is preparing to launch the new-gen model of its popular CR-V. I saw the glimpse of the SUV in the Auto Expo 2018 and I must say that the car has been drastically changed from the to-be-replaced version. And what makes it more special is that for the first time in its history in India, it will get a diesel engine that too can be availed in the 7-seater avatar. This is especially crucial since its immediate rival Hyundai Tucson is a 5-seater and the arch-rivals Endeavour and Fortuner are already available in the 7-seater version. I was looking for an SUV last month but my friend informed me about the new Honda CR-V launching in October. The moment I heard this I started researching about the car and this is my first pre-purchase review. In terms of appearance, the new Honda CR-V resembles the other cars in the family such as Honda Amaze, Honda BR-V and Honda WR-V, especially at the front. And the most common thing, especially about the front profile, is that chunky chrome grille. The dual-toned alloy wheels are gorgeously styled while the rear profile features similar but revised boomerang styled tail lights. Inside, the car is more luxurious and comes with a user-friendly cabin. This is evident with the features such as powered driver's seat, smartly laid out dashboard, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Pretty much everything you would like in a cabin of a premium SUV. The diesel engine is one of the best Honda have produced so far. This is from Honda?s Earth Dreams family. The 1.6L produces 160PS in the international model while the Indian version will get the 120PS version. Surely, this would be disappointing for many as 120PS seems not enough for a premium SUV like this. But intra-city commute would be more than sufficient. Also, the good thing is that the engine is available with CVT automatic transmission. Another nice thing about this engine is that it is fuel efficient, so even if you own a bulky SUV, the pleasing fuel economy will compensate the shortcomings of low power figure. I have seen a couple of reviews on the YouTube and I am pretty much impressed with the alterations made to the car. I was earlier planning to buy Hyundai Tucson but it lacks the WOW factor that should have in the Rs. 30 lakh car. If you are planning to buy Hyundai Tucson, I would recommend you to wait a few weeks and see if the new Honda CR-V is the car you were looking for.
