Ford unveiled this hatchback in the 3rd quarter of 2009 to compete with the likes of Maruti Ritz, Hyundai i20, Toyota Etios Liva, Chevrolet Beat, Honda Jazz and Skoda Fabia. This small car is based on the platform of the European Fiesta which was a real big success. Ford has taken various measures to price this car competitively and in doing so they have managed to place it in the large hatchback segment. Ford has equipped Ford Figo with everything that a small car owner can wish for. The ZXI model has 1.4L 69 bhp Duratorq Diesel Engine which comes with a displacement of 1399cc . The appearance of this hatchback is also very appealing and could also be said as the best creation of the American auto major so far. The front of the car has halogen headlights in the distinctive human eye shape. The side view mirrors and the door handles are painted in the body colour to give this car a sporty look. The car has an overall length of 3795mm, width 1680mm and a height of 1427mm which provides enough legroom, headroom and shoulder room. The ground clearance is 168mm while the wheel base is 2489mm. The interior of the car is very elegantly designed; the cabin is equipped with enticing fabric, equipment and seating arrangement. The dash has the advanced stereo and the instrumentation panel. The whole interior is wrapped with fabric upholstery and the dual tone seats to enhance the beauty.

Mileage

Ford Figo is equipped with a 1.4L 69 bhp Diesel Engine which has 4 valves per cylinder with SOHC valve configuration. This diesel engine is very much fuel efficient as it provides a mileage of 14.5 kmpl in the city and can reach up to 18.5 kmpl on the highways. The engine is verified for the BS IV emission norm. The BS IV is the Bharat Stage emission standard IV instituted by the Government of India to regulate the output of air pollutants from internal combustion engine equipments.

Power

The 4 cylinder Duratorq diesel engine in the car provides a displacement of 1399cc. This engine can produce a maximum power of 69 bhp at 4000rpm and a maximum torque of 160Nm at 2000rpm. The engine has 4 valves per cylinder SOHC valve configuration and common rail fuel supply system.  This Figo accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in the time interval of 16 seconds and can run as fast as 175 kmph. This engine could also be found under the hood of Ford Ikon and Ford Fiesta which also has been a great success because of its excellent performance and high fuel economy.

Acceleration

The ZXI variant of the car carries a 1.4 L Duratorq, Four cylinders, SOHC, common rail diesel engine under its hood. This is the same engine which powers the Ford Fiesta and is well known in the market for its performance and efficiency. Now the same engine in the Figo hatchback would increase the power to weight ratio providing more acceleration and higher top speed. Figo accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 16 seconds and can reach a top speed of 175 kmph .

Engine

The car is powered by a 1.4L four-cylinder diesel Duratorq engine which generates 68 bhp of maximum power at 4000rpm and 160Nm of maximum torque at 2000rpm. The engine has 4 valves per cylinder with SOHC valve configuration and common rail fuel injection system. The hatchback has a five speed gearbox with manual transmission and power steering to provide more smooth performance on road.

Braking & Handling

The Ford Figo Diesel ZXI Brake System includes the ventilated disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. It also has an effective suspension system; the front has the Independent McPherson Strut with Dual Path mount while the rear has Semi Independent Twist Beam, Coil Springs and shock absorbers to avoid any vibrations and bumps on the road and provide a comfortable ride. The car is equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission system that readily falls into hand. The handling is further improved by the power steering that provides a turn radius of just 4.9 metres making the maneuvering easy on the narrow Indian roads.

Safety Features

The safety features in the car include Central Locking, Power Door locks, day and night rear view mirrors, halogen headlamps, rear seat belts, door Ajar warning, adjustable seats, keyless entry, rear defogger and engine immobiliser. But as Ford has priced this car competitively so as to keep a check on price; it lacks some of the standard and advanced safety features which can easily be found in the other hatchbacks in this price range. These include the ABS, Brake Assist, Child Safety locks, Anti-Theft alarm, Airbags, Traction control, Tyre pressure monitor, Vehicle Stability control system, engine check warning and crash sensor.  

Stereo & Accessories

Ford Figo is blessed with an amazing and powerful MP3 player and radio (AM & FM) along with 4 speakers in the front and the rear . This is not an advanced one but will surely satisfy the needs of an audio system.  The audio system could be easily operated while sitting at the back with one single of remote control. The audio system also allows Bluetooth phone interface to access basic phone features like Phonebook, Call Logs, Call Swap, Call Hold, Call Mute, Privacy Mode, SMS notification and Audio Streaming. It also has the speed sensing volume control that change the volume according to the speed of the car, if the speed will increase the volume of the sound system will go higher accordingly. The car is equipped with an air conditioner with heater and the vents fitted on the dash to effectively cool the car. Figo hatchback also has vibrant coral IP, cup holders and remote Boot open and fuel tank. The instrumentation section of the car includes the Digital odometer and tripmeter, DTE display, chime and techometer.
