Look and style: Perfect and a class 5 star Comfort: The best in the class 5 star Pickup: Good, its quadrajet engine could be given 5 star Mileage. Will not disappoint(not checked yet) Best features: The smoothest ride, perfect insulation from external sound and even the sound of the diesel quadrajet engine does not pilfer in unlike other cars. Needs to improve: An absolute must. The metal to metal thudding sound while shutting the doors and also the bonnet and boot door need to be worked on immediately if zest has to make a headway into the market and also no tinted glass which is being offered in all other cars. Overall experience it took me a month to make a detailed analysis of the various cars available in the segment in a bracket of 6-8 lacs and I tested almost all the cars including etios, etios cross, Renault Pulse, Nissan Micra, Datsun, Hyundai grand i10, Xcent, Maruti Celerio, Swift Dzire, Ertiga, and Honda Amaze before finally taking a decision. After weeding through the long list of vehicles and test driving all the ones mentioned above I finally had before me 4 vehicles, Swift Dzire, Toyota etios, Hyundai Xcent, and Tata Zest. I did another round of test driving and finally had to rule out Xcent for its lack of power and also the ride, not all that cushiony unlike the zest which I found to be really good. Also Etios wasn?t as much as per the impression that others made about it for its riding comfort and sitting posture etc. Finally it was between Amaze and Zest. And I have finally taken the plunge to buy the zest diesel for the following reasons. Amaze I had to discard for its shabby gear which felt so hard and rough to handle. I have chosen Zest for its most comfortable ride, sound insulation, no engine noise inside, smooth cushiony seat with nice sitting posture, and of course the smooth quadrajet engine. but despite the door noise sound I finally have decided on this. It is a gamble but I believe in being indian and buying Indian and also give Tata a chance to reinvent itself and I hope Zest will help Tata do that. I have talked to the dealer in Trichur kerala who seemed to be a nice, courteous and lot helpful too and they have assured me to make some arrangement after taking up the matter with the company to rid this issue which actually is a minor one though an irritant for me as i happen to be too inquisitive on such matters and am an informed customer. I wish and hope my decision will prove me right and i shall come back to give my second review after i have taken possession of the car and driven it for a while. I am sure zest will not let me down as i have done a lot of screening and testing before making this informed choice. Tata needs to get its act together and dispel the negativity surrounding it because whenever i have asked any person most have said don't go for tata. So Tata needs to introspect. But this much i know Tata has put in their everything on this car to change that image. It is absolute value for money for the various features it has which you can normally get in a above 9 lacs bracket car.
