Ford brought the iconic car Mustang in India after 51 years of its launch. This was really good news for the Indian auto aficionados. And I was lucky enough to test drive one recently and I am sharing the overall driving experience with you all guys. In the end I would like to share why the sales of this iconic car is dwindling. The good thing is that though the carmaker has brought this car a bit late, but it has launched this vehicle with the most powerful engine of the lot i.e. the 5.0L V8 naturally aspirated petrol engine. The moment I started the engine I felt the engine is quite silent as opposed to what I expected. I found a low-bass gargle when the engine is in the idle state and not as loud as I was expecting in such a car. However, one thing I would like to make clear that it?s not the car that is made for someone who would like to go past unnoticed. Whether you are dawdling in the cities or cruising on the highways, as soon as it gets past the onlookers, they would definitely don't want to blink their eyes for some seconds. Smash the accelerator and I saw the 515Nm of torque turning everything behind, blur and fuzzy. The powertrain produces mammoth 401PS which does seem huge but manageable when you want to tame the vehicle. The power is delivered to the wheels in a linear manner, so don't expect a blazing performance of a supercar. As long as you respect the fact that this is a performance vehicle, it won't disappoint and you will certainly enjoy the thrilling experience it gives. Coming to the acceleration which was main objective of my test driving, I experienced 0-100kmph sprint in just about 6 seconds of time. This is quick but not lightning quick. The 6-speed automatic transmission is a good companion as its proficiency can help the car reach the top speed of 250kmph. The gearbox offers relaxed shifting and the paddle shifters on the steering helped me do that even quicker. The suspension setup offers comfortable ride experience and the car is able to treat any surface with love be it is narrow bylanes or national highways. In short, you can use Mustang as a daily commuter as well. I really enjoyed the driving but one thing can be a cause of concern for many buyers is the price point which cost double or triple the price what is being offered in the US. This is due to the fact that Mustang is being brought in the country via CBU route. Until Ford decides on localization, the sales will continue to dwindle. At the time when it was launched in 2016, the price was Rs. 65 lakhs and now it is Rs. 10 lakh costlier which means on-road price would be over Rs. 80 lakhs. In initial 6-12 months of launch, the carmaker was churning good numbers but in recent times, the sales are dwindling and the car isn't able to get past 20 units a month. So, its time Ford should seriously decide on localization and reduce its price.
