There is always that one company which creates a mark for itself in its field, which others end up trying their entire tenure to replicate. That one company, which stands against the struggles of growing customer demands without compromising its ethics, remains unique in aspects not just limited to exteriors and performance but also in the way they deliver these parameters. Over the past three decades, Mercedes-Benz G-Class proved to be one such brand which constantly re-invented itself, equipped with cutting edge technical and visual performances without losing its jaw dropping, cult DNA. It was the early 1972 when Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Punch in Graz, Austria came under an agreement to create a vehicle that offers never-known-before off-road capabilities while maintaining the comfort features of a luxury vehicle intact. The research and efforts paid off in terms of the first version of G-Class, named in Graz, Austria, which offered a breath of fresh air with its front grill and wheel arches in a different colour compared to the body colour. Being one of the first all wheel drive vehicles, the G-Class was awarded as the the best 4x4 vehicle award an amazing 14 times ever since its first launch. As the Mercedes-Benz team suggests, it is a tough task to redesign an existing automobile icon as a lot of demands and expectations stay in stock. The video portrays the way Mercedes-Benz G-Class acted as a part of history by serving dignitaries as noble as the Pope himself, the Popemobile as it was known, and it was the winner in the 1983 Paris-Dakar Rally. All these achievements which form an impressive chronology make the iconic ‘G-Class’ an indisputable trend setter in the SUV market.
