Test Drive review of Tata Zest-Steady

When we asked anyone who is looking to buy a sedan car to think about Tata car, most of them replied " are yaar vo to taxi wali car hia". Similar thought also came into my mind when I was looking to buy a car but my thinking got changed when I took a test drive of Tata Zest.   I got shocked when I heard the price tag of Rs. 6.67 lakh for the petrol XT (top) model with the features like striking projector head lamp, touch screen infotainment system with speakers from Harman, boot space of 390 ltrs and advance safety features of dual air bags along with ABs and EBD.   Comparing with other 4 meter sedan like Swift desire, Honda Amaze and volkswagen Ameo, the Tata Zest gives a power full stand. Talking about the exterior , the front of the cars gives a smiley crome design with the Tata Tag. The project head lamp along with the 40 LED lights enhance the look of the car. Also the LED day time running lights near to hood create a huge impact in overall look. If we remove the logo of Tata from the front the car, it will give a feel of some Korean car's design. The 15" alloy wheels also makes a good impact into the overall car design. The side view of Tata zest includes two curves based design, one curve starting from the tale lamp and covers the car handle and other curves at the bottom of the gates makes an attractive looks. The back side of the car is with the LED tail lamp along with the single chrome lining make a difference but there is scope of improvement as the back side of Swift Desire or Amaze are more attractive.   The interior of the Zest is best among the Amaze and Swift. As the Zest provides more space and attractive dashboard with dual tone combination. The build quality of the material of dash board is also too good. The touch screen infotainment system is better and it's provides Bluetooth connectivity. The most positive point during the test drive I found the Harman speakers. The quality of the sound system is creates a big difference for those, who loves to music while on driving. The front and rear seats are comfortable and leg room of the back seat is ample, even a six foot tall guy comfortably sits with sufficient head room at the top. The negative points of the interior are missing of armrest, only single slot for bottle holder and even at the back seat no bottle holder is provided by the Tata in rear gates.   Now talking about the performance, the turbocharged petrol revetron engine with the multi mode driving system is good and provides sufficient power at the sport mode but you can hear engine sound while accelerating. The city and Eco modes are also helps you to drive comfortably and economically. The stability of the car is also very good even at the speed of 120 KMPH. The suspension system will not allow you to feel any kind of turbulence during driving.   Overall the car is good package of comfort, safety and practicality but missing a bit from style and advance features like push start stop button, key less entry bottle holder foldable back seat to create more boot space etc. At the price tag of 6.67 lakhs (ex showroom price at Surat) this car still provides better features compare to its competitor. But on the serious note, Tata has to work really hard to get over the image of a taxi car to zest up the life of the customers.
