Maruti Ciaz 1.5L Diesel? Powerful and Efficient. Just recently I have been planning to buy a full-sized premium sedan for my family. I have planned all the things and shortlisted two vehicles for that, one was Hyundai Verna due to its top-notch features and Volkswagen Vento for its powerful set of engines. But all of a sudden I was really excited to know that Maruti has launched Ciaz with a powerful 1.5L diesel engine. It came as a shock to me since I was looking for both powerful and fuel efficient engine along with premium comfort features. Interestingly, the new 1.5L engine is indigenously developed and sadly does not come with SHVS mild-hybrid technology. However, the powertrain makes 95PS and 225Nm of max torque which is 5PS and 25Nm more than the 1.3L engine. The motor is paired with 6-speed manual transmission. This will also end its dependency on Fiat-sourced 1.3L multijet engine. And the best part of the engine is the jaw-dropping fuel economy of 26.82kmpl which is incredible, to say the least. In terms of comfort also, you get plenty for your price. The Ciaz is equipped with 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit that comes powered by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The sedan also gets automatic climate control, a 4.2 inch coloured multi-information display, leatherette upholstery, front and rear armrests and leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio controls. Other oodles of comfort include rear ac vents, push engine start/stop button, automatic headlamps, LED projector headlamps, cruise control and rear parking camera. In terms of safety also, Maruti hasn?t left any stone unturned as the car gets serious upgrade in the safety department. Apart from dual front airbags and ABS with EBD carried forward from the previous version, the sedan now also gets speed alert system, rear parking sensors, Isofix child mount anchorage and seat belt reminder as standard fitment. Top spec models also gets automatic headlamps and cruise control as well. Overall, I am just waiting to get to my nearby dealership for the test drive and then only I would be happy to share more info. I have cancelled Verna and Vento as of now.
