Most of the people don't buy a particular car just because it offers a good boot space. There are many more factors involved, like performance, mileage, looks, safety, etc. However, boot space is an important factor and you can't ignore it completely. A little extra space in your car always comes in handy.

The list of affordable cars which are currently being offered in the Indian market is huge and it is difficult to keep a track of which car offers the best in class boot space. However, we have listed down the cars in the most popular segments that offer a humongous boot to fit all your luggage. Let's get started.

1) Entry-Level Hatchbacks

Renault Kwid: 300 litres

Renault's little wonder, the Kwid has been popular in the Indian market for its spacious interiors and large boot space since its introduction. In fact, one of the key selling points of the Kwid is its boot space as it is significantly higher than its competitors. As far as its primary rivals are concerned, while the Maruti Alto 800 offers 177 litres of boot space, the Hyundai Eon offers 215 litres. The Kwid’s rear seat can also be folded flat which frees additional space for luggage.

2) Mid-size Hatchbacks

Fiat Punto: 280 litres

This segment comprises of a lot of cars in the Indian market. Surprisingly, the popular ones in this segment, like the Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10, fall behind in terms of boot space. The Fiat Punto has the biggest boot space in this segment with a capacity of 280 litres, followed by the recently launched Maruti Ignis with a boot space of 260 litres. Both, the Punto and the Ignis also have 60:40 split rear seat configuration to help accommodate extra luggage when required.

3) Premium Hatchbacks

Honda Jazz: 354 litres

The most spacious car in this segment is the Honda Jazz. It has a big boot of 354 litres. Its primary rivals, the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai i20 have a boot of 339 litres and 285 litres respectively. The Jazz is also ahead of its rivals in terms of interior space as its “Magic Seats” can be configured in a number of ways, depending upon your need. Apart from the common 60:40 rear seat folding option, the rear seats can also be folded back like a bench and the front seats can be fully reclined.

4) Sub-four Metre And Entry Level Sedans

Toyota Etios: 595 litres

Hyundai Xcent: 407 litres (sub-four metre)

The primary reason for buying an entry-level/sub-four metre sedan is for the extended boot at the rear. While in the sub-four metre category the Hyundai Xcent takes the crown with its big boot of 407 litres, the Toyota Etios has the biggest boot of 595 litres, which is even more than that offered by sedans a segment above.

5) Premium Sedans

Honda City: 510 litres

Maruti Ciaz: 510 litres

We have a tie here. The two most popular cars of this segment, the Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz have the same boot size of 510 litres. They are followed by the Fiat Linea and Volkswagen Vento with boot spaces of 500 litres and 494 litres respectively. Another popular car in this segment, the Hyundai Verna offers 465 litres of boot space.

6) Sub-four Metre SUVs

Mahindra Nuvosport: 412 litres

Among all the sub-four metre SUVs currently being offered in the Indian market, the Mahindra Nuvosport has the biggest boot of 412 litres with its last two seats folded. It is significantly higher than that offered by many popular SUVs in this segment. While the Maruti Vitara Brezza offers 328 litres, the Ford Ecosport offers 346 litres. While the second row of seats in the Nuvosport have a recline and 60:40 split option, the two extra seats at the rear let you carry a total of seven passengers which is also an added benefit, compared to its rivals.

7) Compact SUVs

Renault Duster: 475 litres

The popularity of compact SUVs has been growing rapidly for sometime. They offer spacious interiors and have good road presence. However, they aren't too big and can be manoeuvred easily in the city traffic easily. The Renault Duster has the best-in-class boot of 475 litres in this segment. Although the Duster’s rear seat can be folded to make room for extra luggage, it doesn’t offer the 60:40 split option, unlike the Maruti S-Cross. While the Renault's sibling, the Nissan Terrano also offers same 475 litres of boot space, the popular Hyundai Creta offers 400 litres.
