Hyundai Kona Electric comes with a 100kW (136PS) motor with a 39kWh battery pack and a 150kW (204PS) motor with a 64kWh battery pack. However, in India, the electric compact SUV is offered with the less powerful 100kW motor which can cover around 452km per charge, according to ARAI test cycles. Also, the 50kW fast charger can charge the battery from 0-80 per cent in 57 minutes. The 7.2kW AC wall-box charger for home installation takes around 6 hours 10 minutes for a full charge. There is also a small, portable 2.8kW charger that can be plugged into a regular wall socket that would take around 19 hours for a full charge.
The battery cells were made by LG with a cathode that is 60 percent nickel, 20 percent manganese, and 20 percent cobalt. Each 39-kWh pack has five modules that are located under the floor in the main cabin with two stacked modules under the rear seats. There are around 180 cells in the battery pack and are wired into 60 cell groups of three cells a piece.
